These are estimates for loose, uncompacted material. Actual volumes vary with the garden, but the pattern holds. Any real hedge or tree work produces more than a fortnightly bin cycle can absorb, which is exactly why the waste ends up sitting somewhere.
The pattern
Almost nobody plans to have a pile of garden waste. It accumulates for four reasons that all reinforce each other.
A fortnightly green bin absorbs ordinary trimmings. It cannot absorb a hedge cut or a tree prune, so the overflow gets stacked somewhere for next fortnight and never fully clears.
Most people do not own one, and hiring one for a Saturday costs a day as well as the fee.
Once there is a heap behind the shed, the next lot of prunings goes on top of it rather than into the bin. It compounds like everything else in a garden.
A green pile seeds weeds back into the garden it came from, harbours rats and snakes over summer, and in a dry February it is fuel sitting against a fence.
None of this is urgent until it is. The reason most clearances get booked in a hurry is that a house went on the market, an inspection was scheduled, or a neighbour said something.
Rhythm
Green waste removal is usually a one off, and there are five common triggers.
Before a sale or a valuation. A clear garden photographs better and reads as a maintained property.
Before a rental inspection or at the end of a lease. Often the fastest way to close out a condition report.
After storm damage. Melbourne’s east loses a lot of limbs in a bad wind.
After a big garden job. A major hedge reshape or tree prune produces more than any bin can take.
Taking on a neglected garden. A new house, an inherited property, or a garden that got away over a couple of busy years.
Clients on regular garden maintenance rarely need this service, because what we cut on a visit is cleared as we go, using your green bin first. If green waste is building up faster than you can clear it, the underlying issue is usually the maintenance schedule rather than the waste.

The quickest way to get a price is to send photos with your enquiry. A couple of pictures of the pile, ideally with something in shot for scale, is usually enough for us to give you a clear idea before anyone visits.
If there is soil, rubble or non green material mixed through it, tell us up front. It changes where the load goes and we would rather price it properly than surprise you.
